Why Does Community Support Matter in Later-Life Care?

True care extends far beyond the walls of any residence. At KYN, we believe that meaningful living is deeply intertwined with community connection, shared purpose and collective compassion. This belief shapes not only how we care for our residents, but how we engage with the wider world around us.

Below, we cover the charities and foundations we proudly support, from national organisations championing care workers to local initiatives enriching the lives across London, and how these partnerships reflect the values at the heart of everything we do.

How Do We Support Those Who Care?

Behind every moment of compassionate care stands a dedicated professional. The individuals who choose to work in social care give so much of themselves - their time, their energy, their hearts. Yet the challenges they face, both professionally and personally, can sometimes feel overwhelming. This is why KYN is a proud supporter member of The Care Workers' Charity, a national organisation providing vital support to care professionals across the United Kingdom.

The Care Workers' Charity exists to support the wellbeing of care workers in times of need, offering financial assistance and emotional support when life becomes difficult. Whether someone is facing unexpected financial hardship, dealing with personal tragedy, or simply needs a helping hand during difficult times, this remarkable charity ensures that those who dedicate their lives to caring for others have somewhere to turn.

By supporting this organisation, we honour the contribution that care workers make to our society and acknowledge that their wellbeing is linked to the quality of care they can provide.

Which Health and Wellbeing Charities Does KYN Bickley Champion?

At KYN, our commitment to the wider community takes shape through our commitments with three vital national charities, each addressing the specific health difficulties that many of our residents and their families navigate.

Supporting Those Living with Dementia

The Alzheimer's Society stands at the forefront of dementia care, research and advocacy in the UK. This essential charity provides invaluable support to over  900,000 people living with dementia across the country, as well as their families and carers.

From funding groundbreaking research into treatments and potential cures, to offering practical advice and emotional support through their helpline and local services, the Alzheimer's Society works tirelessly to ensure that no one faces dementia alone. Our support for this organisation reflects our deep understanding of the dementia journey and our commitment to advancing dignity and hope for all those affected.

Championing Parkinson's Research and Support

Parkinson's UK is the leading charity supporting the 153,000 people living with Parkinson's disease in the UK. This progressive neurological condition affects movement, speech and numerous other aspects of daily life, yet with the right support and research, those living with Parkinson's can maintain quality of life and independence for many years.

Parkinson's UK funds pioneering research, provides specialist information and support services, and campaigns for better care and understanding. By supporting this charity, KYN Bickley stands alongside those navigating life with Parkinson's, recognising both the difficulties they face and their extraordinary resilience.

Partnering with Age UK

Age UK works to ensure that later life is something to celebrate rather than fear. This influential charity addresses loneliness, campaigns against age discrimination, provides practical support and advice, and fights for the rights and dignity of older people across the country.

Their work touches on everything from financial wellbeing to health services, from community connections to housing - all the elements that contribute to positive ageing. Our partnership with Age UK aligns perfectly with KYN's philosophy that later years should be filled with joy, purpose and meaningful connection.

How Are We Enriching Our Local Communities?

While national charities address broad challenges, local foundations create tangible change in the neighbourhoods we call home. KYN Hurlingham has forged meaningful partnerships with two local organisations, and KYN Bickley’s residents have started their own initiative for their counterparts living close by.

The Hurlingham Foundation

Since opening in 2024, KYN Hurlingham has proudly supported The Hurlingham Foundation, an organisation with deep roots in the local community. Established in 2021 by The Hurlingham Club, whose beautiful 42 acres of landscaped grounds sit opposite our residence, the Foundation creates meaningful partnerships with local schools and charities to bring about positive change. This partnership reflects our belief that supporting all ages and stages of life strengthens the entire community.

The Daisy Trust

For over four decades, The Daisy Trust has been a quiet force for good in Hammersmith and Fulham. This entirely volunteer-run charity embodies the essence of community spirit, raising funds each year to support local organisations helping people in need throughout the borough. Since 2010 alone, The Daisy Trust has given over £790,000 to more than 160 beneficiaries, with funds reaching those who need them most across the community.

KYN Hurlingham's continued support for The Daisy Trust reflects our deep commitment to the local community and our recognition that true wellbeing is built through collective care and mutual support.

Kind Connections

Sometimes the most powerful initiatives emerge from residents themselves. Kind Connections is a beautiful example of this - an initiative started by the residents of KYN Bickley to extend a warm welcome to their culture-rich community.

These gatherings create opportunities for meaningful connection between residents and local peers, featuring events such as shared readings. Supported by our life enrichment team and partners such as Quest Soul Theatre, Kind Connections embodies our belief that our residents have so much to offer the wider community, and that authentic connection enriches everyone involved.

Building a Culture of Compassion at KYN

Through these partnerships and initiatives, we honour our responsibility not just to deliver outstanding care within our residences, but to contribute meaningfully to the wider community. When we actively support local and national charities, we help build a culture of compassion, resilience and shared purpose - values that sit at the very heart of KYN.

This is care that recognises our interconnectedness and creates ripples of positive change extending far beyond any single moment or place. To discover more about life at KYN and our approach to holistic wellbeing, contact us today.
