What food do they serve at care homes?
Care homes will typically provide meals that are nutritionally balanced and cater to residents' dietary needs. Meals will consist of a variety of food groups with vegetables served alongside lean meats, with healthy fats and a healthy amount of protein. Food that is categorised as low risk is ideal, meaning foods that aren't too hot, and which are easy to eat. At KYN, our residents enjoy a wide variety of healthy, comforting meals with an emphasis on fresh, seasonal ingredients, with residents’ personal preferences taken into account.
Why is nutrition important in care homes?
Good nutrition is essential for everyone, but it is especially important for older people and those living with dementia. A balanced diet can help to boost energy levels, improve mood and brain function, and support overall health and wellbeing. That’s why, at KYN, we take nutrition seriously. Our chefs lovingly prepare tasty, nourishing meals, working alongside our nutritionist who ensures our meals provide optimal nutritional balance for the needs of older people.
Can you take food into care homes?
Whether you can take food into a care home depends on the policies of the home in question. Most care homes will advise you to only bring foods that are safe to eat. For example, you should avoid bringing food that is too hot or may present a choking hazard. At KYN, residents are free to enjoy delicious food prepared on-site by our talented chefs 24 hours a day, or enjoy treats brought in by family members or friends.
How does a KYN care home cater to dietary requirements?
Our focus at KYN is on our residents' physical and emotional wellbeing. As such, we get to know each resident’s medical needs, dietary requirements and food preferences individually. This helps us to ensure that they receive nutritionally balanced, satisfying meals catered specifically to their tastes. The food served at our care homes is nutritious and delicious, with a wide variety of menu options to choose from. Our talented team of chefs can accommodate all dietary requirements from gluten-free to low-FODMAP. Our kitchen team are always on hand to discuss any concerns or questions you may have.
How often does the menu change?
At KYN, our chefs source fresh, local ingredients and change the menu daily to reflect the seasonal produce on offer. Our residents always have a variety of different menu options to choose from, whether they wish to eat privately in their rooms or enjoy the company of others in The Great Room, or any of our other communal spaces. We also offer a 24-hour in-room dining service, so that residents can enjoy their meals exactly when they want them.
